Terroir & origin
Fuding, in eastern Fujian, is one of China's major centres of white tea production. Fuding white tea is famous for its delicacy and sweet flavour, made from young buds with fuzzy, silvery leaves through a meticulous process that preserves its finesse. The chen pi comes from Xinhui in Guangdong — the region renowned for aged citrus peel — bringing a pleasant mandarin acidity and gentle bitterness. Buds and peels are dried and aged separately, then blended; the tea absorbs the aromas of the chen pi, creating this unique white tea.
Heritage
Chen pi — patiently aged mandarin peel — has been prized in Chinese herbal tradition for some two thousand years; 'thousand-year ginseng, hundred-year chen pi', says the proverb. Marrying it with tea, a custom traced back to the Tang dynasty, is ancestral Chinese wisdom in a cup.
Expert tasting note
“It's soft; the mandarin notes are discreet but well integrated in the tea. Pleasant on the palate, weightless, delicate, with a very graceful finesse.”— Philippe Chatillon, pioneering Jura winegrower, a longtime advocate of biodynamic viticulture

FAQ
What is chen pi?
Chen pi is dried mandarin peel aged over years — a traditional ingredient of both Chinese cuisine and Chinese herbal medicine, prized for centuries. THÉROIR uses chen pi from Xinhui, Guangdong, aged 6 years, with a pleasant mandarin acidity and gentle bitterness.
Is this a flavoured tea?
No. Chen Pi Bai Cha contains no added flavourings — the citrus aroma comes entirely from natural aged mandarin peel blended with the white tea, whose leaves absorb its aromas during the process.
Is Chen Pi Bai Cha low in caffeine?
Yes — it is the lowest-caffeine tea in our collection: a generous share of each bag is naturally caffeine-free aged mandarin peel, so every cup simply holds less tea leaf. Perfect for late afternoons and peaceful evenings, hot or cold brewed.
When should I drink it?
Light and relaxing, it suits afternoons and evenings; cold brewed, its citrus freshness makes it an ideal summer iced tea.
